We arrived at the Lane County Fair in Eugene early in the morning to get a jump on the crowds. The fairground area was a multipurpose area used for concerts and various activities. It was roomy and well maintained.
This is the first camel we have seen at a County Fair. These critters are related to Llamas and Alpacas.
The indoor open competitions were held in these roomy high ceilinged buildings. Very nice effect.
Commercial exhibits in very large exhibit hall.
Here is Barbara Benner. She is a rug
hooking whiz. She described herself as a "happy hooker". Her website is http://www.red-clover-rugs.com/ |

Hiding behind this screened room and within this protective suit is beekeeper Morris Ostrofsky. Morris gave a fascinating discussion on bee husbandry as he removed these racks full of honey and bees. We saw a young bee emerge from its cell and begin to exercise its wings.
You may notice that this sheep has a pair of horns pointing up. It also
has a pair pointing out to the sides. Some have a third pair coming out
somewhere. The origins of the Jacob breed are obscure, to say the least.
There are almost as many stories about where they came from as there are
story tellers. Click here to learn more about Jacob Sheep. |

Here is an American Brahman cow with the distinctive large hump over the
top of the shoulder and neck. The mom, Nicki. had this calf Lady Sue Ann,
5/10/00. We all have seen Brahman bulls at the rodeos bucking off cowboys.
We forget about the moms back home on the farm. Click here to learn more about Brahman Cows. |

Here is charming Lynne Pimentel of C bar L Ranch in Harrisburg. Lynne
was the most informative and gracious beef person we have met at the fairs.
They raise Longhorn cattle. This breed of beef cattle have the leanest meat. Click here to learn more about Longhorns. |

Very Large sheep barn. Lane and Benton County are large sheep Counties.
These gals were The Mane Attraction, a horse drill team. They were practicing early in the morning. Fascinating to watch.
This seemed to be a long way from the goats...but what do we know.
A little something for the road. |
