The 85th annual Columbia County Fair was held at St. Helens. This Fair sure felt friendly. We would be walking by people, neighbors maybe, just talking like long lost friends. The grounds were well maintained and roomy.
The food area had the 4 basic food groups plus local action.
Here are the Horse barns. This Fair had the largest group of horses we
have seen. We got the feeling that this County Fair Grounds could be a working
Farm or Dairy or Ranch. There were facilities all over that made it seem
like it could be busy year round. How about this for a fun idea...Stay at the fairgrounds for a week or a few days like a resort dude ranch. Eat good grub, clean out horse stalls, Fall asleep feeling tired. I'd do that and pay $500/week. Just a thought for the County folks. |

Here's 17 year old Luke Ellis milking 7 year old Roxanne. We (that's the
proverbial we) got about 2 gallons of Holstein milk in about 15 minutes.
The electric motor driven vacuum pump creates a vacuum and powers 2 piston
valves that pulsate rubber bladders acting like fingers milking. Here's a fun side note. Luke's family lives in Vernonia. Vicki's mom grew up in Vernonia and thinks she went out with Loren Ellis, Luke's grandfather back in the early 1930's. What a country. |

Feeding the milk to Roxanne's calf
Here is Vicky Sutterly with Tootsie. Tootsie is a Jersey and the mom of Mocha and Grandmum of Comet. These Jersey's are the cutest cows.
Here are Vicki and Vicky discussing the award winning features of this nice cow
This is a LaMancha goat with teeny little ears and a new baby. I wonder
what a baby goat is called? The kid that can guess that may win a prize.
The LaMancha goat originated in Oregon. Click here for more LaMancha information. |

Here we are at the Rodeo. Look at those stands...full of cheering fans.
This is a great part of this County Fair. Click here to listen to a little bit of rodeo crowd noise. This may take a few seconds to load. |

These guys were waiting around for their event to begin. We drove in the wrong entrance and got to park with the F350 pickups and Horse Trailers. We got to walk through lots of evidence of horses. This Fair was thoroughly enjoyable. |
